PET全称为Preliminary English Test，是由剑桥大学英语考评部研发的语言能力测试（Proficiency Test），是剑桥通用英语五级测评（Main Suite Examinations）中的第二级，PET在欧洲语言共同参考框架（CEFR）中对应B1水平
The full name of pet is preliminary English test. It is a language proficiency test developed by the English Evaluation Department of Cambridge University. It is the second level in the main suite examinations of Cambridge. Pet corresponds to B1 level in the European language common reference framework (CEFR)

PET对应的B1语言能力要求为：“能理解有关工作、学校或爱好等熟悉话题的语言中的基本信息。在国外旅行时能自如地应对可能发生的一般情况。在谈到感兴趣和熟悉的话题时，能简明、连贯地表达自己的意见。能讲述经历、事件或描述梦想、希望和目标，并简要地阐述和说明计划或意见。”
The B1 language ability requirements corresponding to pet are: "Be able to understand the basic information in the language of familiar topics such as work, school or hobbies. Be able to deal with possible general situations freely when traveling abroad. Be able to express their opinions concisely and consistently when talking about interesting and familiar topics. Be able to tell experiences, events or describe dreams, hopes and goals, and briefly explain plans or opinions."

PET能力测评共分为三个部分：阅读与写作、听力及口语，分别考查读、写、听、说四项语言技能，强调语言在实际生活场景中的应用能力。
Pet ability assessment is divided into three parts: reading and writing, listening and speaking. It examines the four language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking respectively, and emphasizes the application ability of language in real life scenes.
